201 East 79th Street

201 East 79th street was originally constructed in the early 1960’s with a classic white glazed brick façade that defined many of the multifamily projects built during that era. Not known at the time, the selected glazed brick façade material’s lifespan was about 50 years. In recent years 201 East 79th Street’s façade started to deteriorate. Due to this the Board was authorized to conduct studies and probe the existing façade. After many inspections and studies by the Board’s consultants, it was determined that the existing façade, bulkhead, and terraces required substantial renovations. The Board reviewed several practical façade options that would result in greater energy efficiency, an extended life span, and an overall beautification of the building. It was concluded that the existing glazed brick façade should be removed entirely. After demolishing the existing glazed brick façade, the backup CMU block was repaired, parged, and waterproofed. New insulation was added, and window water proofing repairs were also performed. This was followed by the installation of a beautiful new porcelain rain screen system, that would bring the building up to date in its look and energy efficiency. CMA originally joined the project as Cost Consultants to advise the Board. CMA was subsequently awarded the Façade Renovation Project. Anticipated completion is July of 2021.
